Not yet! It will seem like you are ‘in’ the class. You will be able to view the course page, and you may even get a welcome email.  What you are in at this point is a group called Lottery Student or Lottery Parent.  That group works like a placeholder.  You are saying that you would like a seat in the live class, but you are not actually in the class yet.

As VHSG has grown, more and more students would like to be seated in the live classes. For live courses, we usually need to limit class sizes to about 30 students in each session due to the limitations of virtual classrooms and being able to manage students.

If more students than teachers sign up, we try to recruit more teachers ASAP. We have had classes that offered more than 10 sessions in some years. With some classes, though, we had to go to lottery if we didn't get enough volunteers to teach.

For lottery classes, Early Seating families are seated first. (Even Early Seating can go to lottery if there are not enough volunteer teachers.  We can only seat what we have volunteers for, and nobody is absolutely guaranteed a seat.  We have had a good record of seating all early seating families in the past, but we need the volunteers.  As we grow, this gets more challenging to seat everyone.  We do our best to recruit additional volunteers to at least seat all of the Early Seating families.)  For classes that do fill, a lottery is held.  First, within Early Seating (if necessary), then within the General Seating families.

After the lottery is held (if we need to have one), you can check your account to see if your student received a live seat.  We will post messages on course pages to let people know whether all students were able to be seated.  Messages will be sent out through Moodle on our website to notify families if they received a spot in the class.

Please note that it could be mid August before you know for sure if your child has a seat in a live class. Unless you plan on teaching that particular class anyway, do not buy your materials before you know if your child is seated!  Some classes such as Saxon math and Apologia science have and AYOP (At Your Own Pace) option you could use as a backup, but that is not available in all subjects.
